The SCSO is a lively and passionate Central Florida civic orchestra comprised of professional, university level and talented youth musicians. The symphony performs in a very comfortable venue at the First Baptist Church in Merritt Island, with tickets priced at just $10 for general admission. Brevard County is full of wonderful ensembles and musicians. This has prompted the question: why create another? As some of you may know, many orchestras and music ensembles in America are struggling with attendance and monetary concerns. Live concerts once had the appeal that a new play or film would today. My concern is that, despite all the gains in public accessibility, something critical has been lost. This loss is the sense of a living culture, of people being directly engaged in music. Our vision is to instill the passion and magic of symphonic music to a much wider audience and work with all of the local ensembles to achieve this. And for a price comparable to a movie ticket. The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra has three important purposes: Our primary mission is to provide an opportunity for talented youth and college musicians to play alongside and be mentored by professional musicians. Through a unique and exclusive partnership with the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra, these young talents will be exposed to exceptionally challenging and rewarding repertoire, helping ensure a symphonic musical tradition for the enjoyment of future generations. Our second objective is to offer tickets at a very low cost, to encourage attendance by a broad cross section of the community. Many people have never seen a live professional orchestra, often because ticket prices are simply beyond their reach. With the exception of Special Orchestra Seating, tickets to all Space Coast Symphony performances will be just $10.Lastly, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is committed to changing lives through music’s extraordinary power to communicate and inspire, uplift, educate and entertain. We are dedicated to challenging classical performance boundaries by offering fresh interpretations of the great masterworks as well as highlighting new and unusual works. Through live performances that are evocative, dramatic, and fervent we seek to develop new audiences of all ages for classical music. Every performance must and will connect with our audience in a meaningful way, because we understand that music at its best is a shared experience between performer and the listener.
