The Orlando Public Library is the headquarters and resource center for the Orange County Library System. The Library has been located at this site since its beginnings as the Albertson Public Library in 1923. Public Reference Departments in the Orlando Public Library include Children’s, Library Central, and Learning Central. The Children’s Library offers spacious areas, special programs, computers and story rooms for our youngest readers and readers to be. The Technology and Education Center is located on the second floor and includes theĀ Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity. The Friends of the Library Third Floor Bookstore is open daily and recycles withdrawn and donated books to the community.

The Orange County Library System provides Information, Imagination and Inspiration to more than four million visitors annually. Books are available in print, CD audiobooks, and downloadable formats compatible with mobile devices. Certain items can be delivered right to your home – free of charge – using MAYL (Materials Access from Your Library). Patrons may also check out new and classic DVDs, music CDs, and even stream music and movies for free via hoopla. We also offer Zinio for Libraries which provides free access to more than 250 popular e-magazine titles all from the comfort of your home or local Internet cafe. Multiple online databases, RSS feeds, streaming video and Wi-Fi access are also available. Numerous technology classes are offered along with author signings, special events and programs throughout the year. The Library is involved in several programs and partnerships to foster early reading success among elementary students and the Orlando Public Library features “Club Central,” a hip area specifically for tweens and teens (ages 11-18).
